Happy new year and welcome back to what’s shaping up to being a hectic but interesting year! I’ve got a bunch of posts brewing, but for starters … A day in the life of a digital learning resource: from access to reuse is a one-day workshop on 19 March 2009 in Wellington.
Hosted by the Ministry of Education, it’s a chance to find out a whole lot about authoring, storing and using digital learning resources. The workshop features New Zealand and international speakers on a range of related topics.
There’s a heap of great stuff in here, but a couple of presentations particularly relevant for teachers are:
- A talk on collaborative partnerships with cultural and scientific institutions will take the audience through the types of digitised cultural and scientific material being online and working and engaging with the cultural sector.
- A look at why. despite recent advances in digital learning technologies and digital/online libraries, the mainstay resources used in school education are still the printed textbook and the printed handout, and what the ministry is doing to support better creation and use of digital resources in schools.
I’m told an absolute must-see is the Cyber Home Learning of South Korea demonstration. The system is an e-learning service supporting primary and secondary education and is used by 3 million students and 30,000 teachers throughout Korea. It offers high-quality courses for students living in rural areas and remote islands, and it bridges the educational divide between regions.
