An unexpected Scrum graphic

Nathan recently returned from Shanghai with a Scrum handout that was quite different to any we’d seen before:

Scrum ladies

Produced by a Japanese company, these manga-esque characters are a lot more cutesy than we’re used to!

Yes, I’ve seen it before and it’s in quite broad circulation in the Japanese Scrum community.

For a more comprehensive manga expose of Scrum, see the excellent book “Scrum Boot Camp” (

(BTW, the graphic has the problems that 1. Spring Planning is broken down into two meetings, which is very rarely done in practice, and that 2. Sprint planning happens *inside* the recurring Sprint loop, not as a precursor to it. The graphic therefore technically shows waterfall with checkpoints rather than Scrum :-)

But, yes, it’s good enough for managers.

Yes I think it’s probably not a graphic that bears up under close scrutiny – but it’s a bit of fun :)
